What candles release before and after lighting ↗

Across six candles, five scented and one plain, esters dominated emissions before lighting, formaldehyde reached the highest concentration once lit, and most lit scented candles emitted more low-boiling compounds.

Six candle types; esters before lighting mainly reflect added fragrance, and formaldehyde is a combustion product, not a wax odour.
