In a reconstructed aircraft cabin section occupied by people during simulated four-hour flights, adding ozone increased by-products such as acetone, nonanal, decanal, 4-oxopentanal and 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one; several of the by-products, which also included formic and acetic acid, reached levels above their reported odour thresholds, and most formed on the occupants and their clothing.
Simulated flights in a test facility with ozone added deliberately; real cabins vary with ozone level and ventilation.
