Monoterpenes from pines through the seasons ↗

Over a full growing cycle, monoterpenes made up more than 95% of the volatile emissions from the branches of conifers including ponderosa and bristlecone pine; monoterpene emissions depended on temperature in the short term, and basal emission rates were generally higher in spring and summer than in winter.

Branch-enclosure measurements on four named conifer species (and two deciduous species not covered here); it describes emissions, not forest air as people smell it.
