MOLECULE

benzyl acetate

Named in 1 VERIFIED claim about 1 Atlas entry: Jasmine.

Where the evidence names it

Jasmine

Major component · the claim says “the most abundant compounds”

In volatiles emitted by living Jasminum sambac flowers, α-farnesene, linalool and benzyl acetate were the most abundant compounds, and blocking α-farnesene production also diminished the flowers' sweet scent.

Scope: One J. sambac cultivar across flowering stages; it reports abundance, not odour potency, and other jasmine species differ. CLM-JASMINE-001 ↗

WHAT THIS MEANS

SmellBook lists a molecule only where a VERIFIED claim names it, in the role and scope that claim states. A molecule reported in a smell's evidence is not the whole smell: most smells come from many compounds together, and the studies measured particular samples, such as one cultivar, an essential oil or a cooked product.
