Citing a smell encyclopedia
Students cite a SmellBook entry precisely: its identifiers, the revision read, the dataset release and the sources behind it.
- Open an entry and its citation package. Find the SB record number, the permanent identifier and the resolver address.
- Find the revision and the dataset release checksum, and explain what each pins down.
- Import the entry into a reference manager from the RIS or BibTeX file.
- Trace one claim to its original source and cite the source itself, not SmellBook, for the fact it states.
- When should you cite SmellBook, and when the source it cites?
- Why does a permanent identifier outlast a page address?
One correct citation of an entry and one of the original source behind one of its claims.
Seminar guides are free, like all of SmellBook Learn. They are suggestions for lecturers, built only from what SmellBook already publishes; they are not a curriculum and not tied to any university, programme or partner.
