Where the evidence names it

New Car

Reported volatile · the claim says “including”

In new vehicles parked in sunshine, interior materials released higher concentrations and more kinds of volatile organic compounds than in a test chamber, including alkanes, alcohols, ketones, benzenes, alkenes, aldehydes, esters and naphthalene, and the levels fell to chamber levels after a period of driving.

Scope: New vehicles of three brands; it measures emissions, not odour, and levels varied with model, speed, ventilation and temperature. CLM-NEWCAR-001 ↗

WHAT THIS MEANS

SmellBook lists a molecule only where a VERIFIED claim names it, in the role and scope that claim states. A molecule reported in a smell's evidence is not the whole smell: most smells come from many compounds together, and the studies measured particular samples, such as one cultivar, an essential oil or a cooked product.
