Reported volatile · the claim says “released on wounding”
In laboratory measurements, cut grass and clover released a burst of volatile compounds when cut, followed by a second, more intense emission lasting several hours as the plants began to dry, with enhanced emissions of methanol, acetaldehyde, acetone and butanone besides the (Z)-3-hexenal, (Z)-3-hexenol and hexenyl acetate released on wounding.
Scope: Freshly cut grass and clover drying in a laboratory; the source does not mention haymaking or study finished hay, and it measures emissions, not odour. CLM-HAYDRYING-001 ↗

WHAT THIS MEANS
SmellBook lists a molecule only where a VERIFIED claim names it, in the role and scope that claim states. A molecule reported in a smell's evidence is not the whole smell: most smells come from many compounds together, and the studies measured particular samples, such as one cultivar, an essential oil or a cooked product.
