Why does each kind of place have a smell people recognise?
Shops, stations, kitchens and libraries each combine materials, activity and cleaning routines into a recognisable smellscape.
In the Atlas, 6 kinds of place have more than one entry, such as hotel, kitchen, supermarket: the same kind of place smells different by room, time and use.
- Choose a place you visit every week. Note the first smell you notice on arrival and the last one when you leave.
