Every published entry meets the same checked standard.

• Has a permanent smellbook: identifier
• Has a name
• Summary of at least 40 characters
• Has a category and a type
• At least one canonical descriptor
• At least two typed links to other smells
• Carries an explicit evidence status and origin

Draft → reviewed → published. There is no public submission path yet.

• No public write path exists; drafts are editorial records, not submissions.
• A draft is published only after review and only if it passes the entry standard and the identity rules.
• A permanent identifier is issued at publication, in a new sealed ledger block, never earlier.
• A slug, identifier or name already used by a published entry is never reused for a new one.
• New entries start as SmellBook editorial content; they become VERIFIED only through a registered source and claim.

265 names and aliases each identify exactly one entry. 21 look-alike pairs were reviewed and recorded as distinct smells.

• Two entries that describe the same smell are merged: the surviving entry keeps its permanent identifier.
• The absorbed identifier is retired with a reason and replacedBy; it is never deleted and never reused.
• A retired identifier answers 410 with a retirement notice and a successor-version Link to the survivor; it never silently redirects to a different record.
• Aliases of the absorbed entry move to the survivor so its names still find the right entry.
• Candidates that are genuinely different smells are recorded as distinct with a reason, so they are not flagged again.
