DATA & SOURCE POLICY

Build an original smell world, not a copy of someone else’s database.

This policy guides the public website and future data collection as SmellBook grows.

01

First-party first

Build community perception and preference data directly rather than copying another platform’s rankings or reviews.

02

Open where appropriate

Use CC0, public-domain and clearly licensed commercial-use data when it is genuinely useful and the license is documented.

03

Facts with citations

Independent factual claims can be used when supported by appropriate sources and expressed in original language.

04

Original classification

SmellBook’s public taxonomy, descriptors and relationship presentation should be original rather than copied from perfume databases.

05

Respect media rights

Do not copy product photography, reviews, editorial images or proprietary visual assets without permission or an appropriate license.

06

Separate evidence types

Scientific evidence, community data, culture and prediction must remain visibly distinguishable.

CORE RULE

Original structure. Traceable facts. Clearly licensed inputs.

The long-term value should come from SmellBook’s own model, first-party perception data and original experience—not scraped competitor content.
